Much of communication happens through body language, and personal character customisation is in the heart of online games, from my point of view.
Humans and humanoids should have a more detailed topology and more joints, not ruining the unique cubic style, but making the sentient creatures of the game look more natural and less robotic. (Iron golems should keep their look, by the way).
What I suggest here is at least the addition of knee and elbow joints, so that characters can get more expressive. I can't even propeely tell the difference of a walking Steve from a running Steve in slow motion.
