It's still a bug why would they re-add a bug into newer versions for no reason other than nostalgia. It's a downgrade, not an upgrade because the normal world border is 30 million blocks out while the farlands are 12.5 million blocks out that's like saying "Remove the new villages because I like the old nostalgic villages". The normal world border is cleaner and fewer glitches than the farlands and a lot less laggy too so I think that would be a horrible idea to bring the farlands back and we still have the barrier called the world border so why would we want to replace it with an unstable glitch such as the farlands where if you went far enough you'd fall OUT of the world.

SpringyToast735 id like to first argue that you wouldnt realistically even see the farlands unless thats what you specifically set out to do, furthermore many of the bugs the come with distance in relation to spawn have been patched, which may hint that the border itself is going to be reworked, and the lag attributed with the farlands specifically is due to the erratic gravity block placement, which would create infinite amounts of entities, which to my knowledge has been patched. and as the only vanilla far lands actually deteriorate over around twelve thousand blocks, i think that they would not only make an interesting milestone, but a unique one too. finally if i for sake of argument liked the older villages why shouldn't there be an option to generate them? if they were some obscure option or slider as i suggested they wouldnt impact the base game, yet add yet another layer of customization. im not saying the farlands should realistically be a part of the base game, but as they are the most famous error in minecraft, maybe in gaming, i do think the deserve some love, even if that manifests in said obscure toggle or slider
