With the introduction of skulk sensors comes an ability that is quite interesting: sensing through sounds.
My suggestion is quite simple in concept: Create a new system where hostile mobs will "hear" players place blocks, break blocks, take damage, walk or sprint, eat food, or interact with items (chests, buttons, doors, etc.).
This is more of an alert system than anything else, and would basically work like this:
A player is walking through a cave and needs to craft a new pickaxe. The player places a crafting table, creating a sound. A skeleton in a cave above the player hears the crafting table being placed through the single-block stone floor and path finds to the nearest opening to drop down a level.
A second layer to this idea could be added similarly to how silverfish alert others of its kind when being attacked.
If a Skeleton hears a player nearby and passes a zombie, the skeleton will alert the zombie that a player is nearby, making both mobs go after the player.
I think this system would be extremely interesting for higher levels of difficulty especially as it would bring a new type of difficulty to the game. On top of the main basis for this idea, there is also the hidden bonus of being able to utilize it for farms or other contraption trickery. If someone has a mob grinder and has someone hit a wooden button alerting the mobs inside of the player's presence, making them take a path towards the player, feeding them directly into a piston crusher or other device.
