Narwhals would spawn in iceberg biomes in pods like dolphins do, they will need to come up for air occasionally but that becomes difficult when under the ice. So taking inspiration from real life, the narwhal will be able to break ice with it's tusk (the "horn").
Although it's not entirely certain what narwhals use their tusk for in real life, breaking ice is one hypothesis.
How will this effect gameplay? Ice farms!
Currently ice farms are all manual, you have to keep coming back and breaking to ice yourself with a silk touch tool. But what if you could trap a narwhal or two in a pool and when the water freezes over the narwhals can break the ice. The ice will drop as an item and could be picked up by a hopper.
And to not break too many existing game mechanics, narwhals will only be able to break normal ice, not packed or blue ice. And to give more of a reason to why, those ice could be too hard for their tusk.
Narwhals would be able to be bred with raw fish, this is so you only need to get 2 narwhals to start and ice farm. Baby narwhals will not have tusks as the tusk only grows as they mature.
Maybe as a cool, rare spawn, a narwhal could spawn with 2 tusks as this is a very rare mutation that happens in the real world.
