We know that copper armor willn't be added to Minecraft, but perhaps the devolopers simply didn't come up with a suitable functionality for it. Adding a full set of armor is probably useless, but you can do a lot with copper boots.
Our idea is that copper boots can be charged for a short time by a redstone signal and carry it. For example, if a player in these boots walks over a redstone block/powered copper * and then walks over block non charged by redstone, he will charge that block (the player will walk over the redstone block, run forward and step on the redstone dust→dust is activated). At the same time, if a player walks through a redstone dust, he gives a signal only 3 blocks away from himself (instead of 15, as with a regular redstone source).
This mechanic also allows you to add new enchantments (only for copper boots):
The first enchantment will allow you to keep the signal on boots longer and increase the activation distance of redstone dust (1 level of enchantment = 5 blocks, 2 level = 10 blocks, 3 level = 15 blocks, like the source of redstone).
And the second enchantment (incompatible with the first), will allow you to take off charged boots and keep the signal on them as long as you like until you put them on again.
That mechanics of copper boots can be used both for maps and for various mechanisms (secret passages, traps, and more).
*Powered Copper Block - A copper block placed next to the redstone signal source and allowing this signal to be routed.
