The new 20w45a snapshot just introduced waxed copper blocks, which are able to preserve their state by preventing oxidation; what if this idea of wax being used as a preservative was expanded to include waxed redstone components? By crafting redstone dust, repeaters, comparators, etc. along with honeycombs, they would become waxed variants, and would therefor withstand water (and possibly becoming waterloggable). Considering that:
- wax naturally repels water IRL
- waxed variants of blocks are now a thing
- honeycomb still doesn't have too many uses
- no new block models or redstone mechanics would need to be added (unless Mojang decides otherwise)
- rails were just made waterloggable, paving the way for more underwater contraptions
this seems like it would be a somewhat straightforward and much welcomed change to the game!
