Quartz crystal spires

I’m thinking a massive quartz crystal with (significantly) smaller crystals jutting off of it, I want this to be a great challenge to climb and reach the top of, and then it would be a great conquered resource for redstoners. A POSSIBLE explanation for this was an explorer brought a nether quartz crystal to the overworld, and with far more minerals than in the nether, it prospered and grew to the size of a mountain range!
