Minecraft is already a game with many abandoned things but they are not that breathtaking. Sure jungle temples may have diamonds and mineshafts have things like iron but it looks like a game with a lot more history than that. In caves and cliffs update they are adding archeology but it would be more fun if they added even more. Maybe it could make it look like there used to be war. In these areas there could be occasional craters and skulls. Abandoned villages are common around these. There could be underground bunkers with items like horse armor and iron swords and skeleton horses and skeletons spawn here a lot. You may see random arrows sticking on the ground or on trees. You may find an old bomb here too (check that one out) and you can tell which one won by looking at each sides damage. Another would be a deep canyon. These will be basically a big ravine that only generates near mineshafts, strongholds and more. It goes all the way to Y 12 and you can see all the structures. It can be 50 blocks wide at most to make it huge. Another thing could be a statue made of stone, cobblestone and mossy cobblestone and vines in the overworld, netherack and both types of vines in the nether and endstone in the end. These will generate in the shape of a random mob native to the dimension. A final ting would be bones of creatures related to the ones in the game. So for the ender dragon you will see another dragons bones. Write ideas in comments.
