    you could also just instead of coding a new block with a texture and all that just add the mechanic to repeaters

    Sounds like an end game redstone item. But I think it could work. You'd probably want to make it so you get two blocks. One receives signals while the other releases them. So you could put a signal in to one and it would come out the other. The other thing one would need to do it set them to each other. Maybe you could code it so you would be able to put different items in them, and the ones with the same items would be connected. A simple way to connect them. However the more of them that are releasing the signal from the one that is connected, the weaker the signal will be. For each one that releases from one that it goes into the signal will be divided by that number.

    You can just use a dropper to send an item through a portal.
