The new cave update is, in my opinion, the perfect time to finally add a block breaker. But, there's a twist, it's a mob and not a block like the piston for instance.
Here is my idea:
The "block breaker" will be a golem like mob called "The Ancient Miner". The mob would be found deep underground standing idle in a pre-generated run down tunnel.
What's the story and game mechanics behind The Ancient Miner?
The Ancient Miner is an old and mysterious creature that was created long ago by some kind of ancient magic for the purpose of digging tunnels.
The Ancient Miner is a simple creature, it just digs a tunnel in a straight line. It doesn't pick up any materials it mines, expect cobblestone(which it only keeps a stack of in case it needs to bridge over any obstacle) and redstone.
Why redstone? Because the mob itself is powered by redstone (or a new energy ore would also be great). It needs redstone to keep mining. If it runs out of redstone it shuts down and stops mining. That's why all The Ancient Miners are found idle in old tunnels, they couldn't find enough redstone to keep going.
The player would be able "turn it back on" by giving it redstone either by dropping it or right clicking.
Why add The Ancient Miner to the game?
More possibly for automation and a new layer of dept to the lore/story of Minecraft.
In conclusion, I think it would be a great addition to the gamen if implemented with a proper balance of challenge and reward.
