I had an idea to make the glow squid able to illuminate without the need of dynamic lighting:
Every 100 ticks the glow squid will drip a small glowing ink particle from its body (similar to how bees dirip honey). Once the glowing ink hits a surface, it will create a glowing ink splatter (imagine it like a redstone dust placed on the floor)
Glowing ink splatters:
- if waterlogged will decay by one stage every 20 ticks, they have 4 decay stages
Decay 0; 12 light
Decay 1: 8 light
Decay 2: 4 light
Decay 3: 1 light
20 ticks after decay level 3, the splatter dissapears
- They will not decay if not waterlogged
- It can be mined with silk touch and picked up by the player to craft glowing dye
Glowing dye can be used on leather armor, glowing dye leather armor will have a similar effect to the squid, dripping in glowing ink every 100 ticks, the drips from all glowing dye'ed items are different to the squids
- They always decay regardless of waterlogged or not
- They cannot be picked up in any way Same thing could be extended to wools, and other items It allows for a reneweable source of lighting as well as making glowsquid cooler
