Taking inspiration from an old game called Nethack, I believe Minecraft should have its own guidebook. It need not be built into the game itself, it could just be a simple text or pfd file that's included with the game. It would tell you things that are basic, yet essential, for general gameplay. I think the guidebook would be quite appealing to newcomers, as well as a friendly refresher to veterans.
