I think the old Creeper behavior pre-Release 1.2.1 should be brought back. Imo they feel better and smarter being able to strafe you and keep walking towards you when they’re about to explode, rather than currently where you can take no damage simply by walking backwards since they stop walking in front of you.
I tested fighting them in Release 1.1 and, even on Hard, they don’t strafe you the whole time and you can still deal with them by using a hit & run strategy like people do currently. I think it would be better than their current behavior, which feels a bit too easy imo, even with the fact they can one-hit kill you if you don’t have good enough armor or at least some blast protection (which is a thing with both behaviors; I know them being able to walk toward you even while exploding makes it more likely in a situation where you can’t run, but if you keep hitting them it shouldn’t be a problem since they get knocked back and you’re going to take damage anyway).
I know there are still situations where they can be kinda annoying to deal with currently, especially with other mobs around, and they can sneak up on you, but still, most of the time they feel a bit too easy; they would still be easy based on 1.1, even with the buffed explosion power they received in 1.3.1, but they at least feel better, but of course I may just feel this way because the creeper is my favorite mob :>
