Windchimes would be an interesting new item used to predict rain and thunderstorms (and would be a nice introduction to weather hazards in game). Chimes could be crafted from sticks, string and range of choices for chime. Chime sounds depend on chime material, which could include bone, nautilus shell, wood, iron, gold or even netherite. Prediction lead time and event severity could be material dependent - heavier materials need stronger wind to chime. Volume could increase as weather event gets closer, so having multiple chimes of different materials gives a better countdown clock to a weather event. If new metal ores are added in later updates, more sounds could be added.
Netherite chimes could be the only way to announce when hurricanes approach - hurricanes being a tropical thunderstorm that lasts even if you sleep, last for 1-2 days, damage certain block types and trees, unleash hordes of drowned, and only occur near tropical islands (a new white sand jungle biome with new flowers and parrots or lizards?) or shores in warm oceans. Fishing in the aftermath could be different too, because the ocean could stirred p - a better chance to get certain items or even new rare items. Blizzards could be a snowy biome or elevation-dependent variant with horizontal snow, extra stray spawning, wind damage and health damage due to cold.
This is a lot to unpack but developing these ideas could really be stepwise over lots of updates and would be so much fun!!!
