While exploring underground you can stumble across a Buried Altar. The Buried Altar is a new structure shaped like a small cave littered with stone bricks and cobwebs. In the middle of the Buried Altar is a new block called the Altar. The Altar is a unique early game method of enchanting. When you click on the Altar it opens an interface that has a single slot for a tool or armor, at the top of the menu it has an enchantment. Upon placing the tool or armor in the slot the Altar will be destroyed and the tool or armor will be enchanted with the Altar's enchantment, with the cost of some of the tool/armor's durability. This would be a cool way to introduce enchanting early game. Most enchantments from altars would be very weak (Sharpness I, Unbreaking I, Protection I, etc), but the extremely powerful ones would cost so much durability that early game tools wouldn't be strong enough and would break. The Altar would also provide a faint blue light giving a magical atmosphere to the Buried Altar.
(And yes you can mine the Altars with Silk Touch)
