Pausing is now available when playing in an offline/local session! Update your game to 1.11.1.0 or later to use this change.

The main reason why I bought this game was to be able to play a dungeon crawl while it's slow at work. So now I don't play this game until I'm home and most of the time I'm playing the PS4. One of the conveniences of the Switch is that you can take it anywhere and play. Bummer that Mojang didn't program the game with that in mind.

    Yup.

Why have an "offline mode" if you can't play at your own pace?

Completely agree. Kids are telling me they have to finish the level when I ask them to take a break!

Agreed, very hard to enjoy telling your younger kids why you can't stop to look at the new gear because we're going to die! Additionally, checking gear takes forever because locally you can only access one inventory at a time, crazy!

It is completely ridiculous, can't even take a toilet break/lunch break in offline single player mode.

This is the only dungeon crawler I have ever played that I have not been able to pause in single player mode. This needs to be fixex

Seriously disappointed that this isn't a function in the game.

As a new dad, it's hard to find enough time to complete a mission in one seating. If I could pause the game when playing offline I would be able to continue when I have time. Currently, I have lost all progress until that point because I end up dying while away. Very terrible experience.

Why even call it a pause menu if it doesn't pause? I'm a live in caretaker of an old man and can get called away at any time and I can not take time to run to a safe place or complete a level. So I have to just die, since I can't pause.

Mojang does this with Bedrock too. They claim they can't figure out how to add a pause. Seems like BS too me as other games have pause when playing offline. The few I've played that don't, have mods people made to allow it, so even amateurs can make a pause work. Mojang just chooses not to.

I wish to pause so I can go and do something else at times and couldn't. Please add this.

This is just my opinion. A good thing is that if your a parent your kids doesnt need to finish the round if they are supposed to take a break, but i think that makes the game easier and i dont want the game to be easier. But as i said this is just my opinion and i respet the parents opinions to.

Pause in offline single player mode is a requirement. I will not be purchasing this game unless it's added. There really is no reason not to have this feature. Many of the other comments already give multiple valid reasons for offline SP pause so I don't feel the need to repeat them.

Yeah I was surprised and it is awful.

I can't play the game if I expect guests, order food or actually expect ANYTHING that might require my immidiate attention. A game that is supposed to be chill and played anywhere at anytime becomes stressful or you're unable to play it at all, unless you want to die.

I'm honestly kind of flabbergasted by how stupid some decisions regarding this game were, as if the dev team working on this game consisted of people who never played or developed a game. You don't need to be and experienced Game Dev to know some things, like the fact THAT A SINGLEPLAYER GAME SHOULD HAVE AN OPTION TO PAUSE (Or that aggressive DRMs are anti-consumer and drive people who bought the game to pirate it because pirated version is simply superior but that's another topic...)

My brothers and sisters try to enchant or equip gear in the middle of a level, which usually results in death. Once my little brother paused it and ran upstairs with his controller and we almost died. Yes, I agree.

Also, for people who don't know, you can just run into an area you've already passed through and you'll be safe.

Offline mode should definitely have a pause in it. It makes sense for an online session but not for offline. It should be relatively easy to implement.

It's ridiculous this wasn't considered more strongly. I have other things going on all the time, and to not even be able to pause the game to step away for more than a second or two basically makes this unplayable. I'll never buy a DLC if I can't even make my way through the original content because of this.

I strongly agree!  This feature is an absolut must! It astounds me that this even has to be feature request. I would really love to know if it was just forgotton or if there is a good reason for not implementing this. This is the first real-time offline game I've come across that cant be paused. Even Minecraft Classic can be paused. All Diablo Versions can be paused.

Some Levels take quite some time to complete. So being able to pause is really really important.

As a developer, this is an idiotic design “choice.” Not saying the game is solely for children but they’re a huge target audience. In what world does it make sense to not add a pause feature to an OFFLINE game. As a parent also, this is extremely frustrating. Please add the ability to pause. I can’t believe we as a community have to ask for this.

Some one has closed this on https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCD-153
And it clearly hasn’t been resolved, and you’ve a funny idea of what a pause mode is.
Pretty please add this gaming essential feature

Had an interruption last night whilst playing that I couldn't avoid whilst nearing the end of a mission. I assumed I'd paused the game (Win 10), by hitting Escape to take me to the 'Pause menu'. Came back 5 mins later, found myself back at the mission select screen and had no idea why.

Tried to find out why this happened this morning. Found this feedback and now understand the game doesn't actually pause in offline mode, and I now understand that I probably got attacked whilst AFK.

Come on Mojang/Microsoft, this is terrible design.

I've been wanting this game for ages, and have just signed up to Game Pass for £1 for the first month and this was the first game I tried. So glad I didn't drop £25 on this deal breaker design faux pas.

They perfected Pause in games back in 1982...... There is no excuse to not have a pause button in 2021.

Sad this still isn't a feature. Mojang doesn't even give any reasoning for it. The only reason I've seen someone come up with, a player not official, is it might make the game easier. Well, the menu hides the game screen so if esc paused then you'd not see anything to help you. If pause somehow helps you play better and you don't like it, then you could just not to do it. It would be for offline only so someone pausing or not wouldn't effect anyone else.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, I don't understand why such a simple thing as a pause button isn't in this game. When I first started playing dungeons and found out you couldn't pause the game I was pretty upset, Like what if you have to go to the bathroom or attend to something important in your house and you come back and your back at the camp cause you got killed in game over and over? That's extremely crappy game design, and a choice that unfortunately a lot of modern games have. If other games can have a pause button so you can go do what you need, then Minecraft dungeons needs one too.

sometimes while playing and I am in the middle of the level and need to go to something else, but since I can't pause I go in a corner and hope I don't get found by enemies. this idea is great.

Please add a pause feature.  My son is always saying he can't come to dinner or go to bed because he can't pause the game.  It makes getting him to put down the game into a battle.   The alternative is to not let him play the game anymore.
