With the upcoming Nether Update, there's a lot of new particles being added in the new biomes there. They look very fancy, and it got me thinking about rain and snow in the overworld. They don't look as good, actually they look kind of dated, since they're just textures moving down (and a bit diagonal for snow). If we're making particles more appearant in Minecraft now, I'm assuming they cause less lag nowadays. So why not upgrade the weather graphics?
Make snow and rain out of particles as well! Especially with snow this might be interesting, as we could have them fall a little bit underneath ground-covering blocks (imagine a cave; currently there would be no snow effect in there at all, but with particles you could make them float a bit into the cave. They should not generate layers of snow on the ground though).
We could even have a setting in the graphics section where you can set weather to "fancy", which would be the new particle generated weather, and "fast", which would be the old, moving textures (currently in the game).
