The idea of the Nether is that it's deadly and I think that the Strider being completely peaceful doesn't make much sense.
My idea is that if you hit a Strider it will be angry, like Villagers becoming angry when hit. An angry Strider would have a chance of kicking you off while on a lava lake, the angry Strider would also have a slightly different facial expression, so you will know if it is still angry.
