Hello there,
my suggestion is to improve the strider via making it so it can be transportable/stored.
Why you may ask?
Well, while the idea behind the strider being a replacement of a boat is fascinating and I completely agree with it, one key advantage, which is also a major drawback for me to the strider, is that we cannot carry it like a boat.
The other day I was travelling through the nether, and since the lava oceans are very small, you are constantly meeting nether terrain between location A to location B (especially if its longer), for this reason in the end I just gave up and decided to walk/bridge, because it was way faster than getting off the strider, having to KILL it to take my saddle back, traverse the terrain and find a new one. Alternatively, it takes too long to get around generated terrain and in most of the cases there's simply no way to go around said terrain.
For this reason I found myself not using the strider at all, because it actually made the traversing through the nether slower, rather than faster. I've already seen tons of nether only gameplays and most people prefer to go by foot instead of using the strider. But I can say for a fact that if they had a nether boat, they would go from ocean to ocean while carrying it with them, thus saving time and actually serving its purpose.
Solution?
My suggestion is to introduce an item, similar to how the beehives work. The striders would go in, and we would be able to transport them within our inventory.
Regards
