The nether, as a whole, is a giant cave. Despite this, the closest thing to stalactites are basalt pillars throughout the nether. I feel as though the addition of blackstone and the beautiful Basalt Deltas, in combination with the currently unobtainable gilded blackstone, provides the possibility of adding to the atmosphere while giving the player a fun challenge.
My idea is that throughout the basalt deltas you may find blackstone stalactites, which feature veins of gilded blackstone. They could connect to the roof at two points with a gap between them. This makes it appear as though it has solidified while dripping from the roof. In a mock-up (I will try to attach an image of it, but it may not work) I have made them almost like teeth by the way that they are sculpted.
Currently, there is very little reason to venture up in the nether, and when you do it is usually to reach higher ground to continue travelling. If these stalactites were the only, or easiest way of obtaining gilded blackstone then it would give the player a good reason to venture upwards towards them, furthering the exploration factor that has already been cranked up to 11 in the snapshots.
If you like this idea, then please vote for it, as it would make a great addition to the Basalt Deltas.
