When you are making your redstone suggestions, please note that Java and Bedrock will not have the exact same the same redstone systems - this would require redoing redstone system completely on one platform or the other. The two systems are functionally different and are going to stay that way. Please be sure to tag your suggestions with (Java) or (Bedrock).

TARGET block emits signal by melee contact

I'd like the team to consider the 1.16.x TARGET block to emit a redstone signal even when struck by direct contact with a melee tool. Your hand, an item held in hand.

 

As many things as possible to directly make contact with the TARGET block, I feel, should produce a redstone signal. I do not feel this should be exclusively ranged tools to make this happen. I feel the nature of such a block would be vibration, in which case striking the TARGET block by hand should produce a vibration just as a bolt from your crossbow.

    the target block should only emit redstone if you shoot it long distance, however, for what you say, we would need a new block, which when hitting it emits redstone

    Can't you do this with a note block and an observer?  I might be remembering how the noteblock works in terms of block updates incorrectly, but Either way I think this is a neat idea.
