Get Minecraft Textures

SITUATION:       In Minecraft you can find lots of textures. But there is no official way, or obvious explanation of where i can find, download or edit these. There are very many texture packs online, but i couldn't find a way to just get the raw textures for the versions of Minecraft I actually downloaded via the launcher. (In the ingame GUI described as "Default" textures, which can not be disabled)

IDEA:       I'd love to see all the minecraft textures, for all Minecraft versions (including snapshots) to be available to download or to be accessable by everyone. The files should (in my opinion, leave other ideas in the comments) at least include the " textures " folder with all sub-folders included.

RECOMMENDATION:        You'd find a list of download links on the Minecraft website for each fully released version and snapshot; OR A feature in the game launcher would be implemented, that would lead you directly to where these files can be found(for each version(and snap.)) and edited(or copied).
