Hex World Generation Option (Java Edition)

I saw this mod made awhile back called The Hexlands Mod and it actually feels very Minecraft to me. The idea is that it adds a world generation option to make the world look like a gigantic hex grid! It looks very cool to me, and I think it would have a lot of potential on servers. Problem is that the mod has stopped being updated as far as I can tell so I really think it would actually make for a cool custom world gen tool.

 

EDIT: (I'm not sure what topic this falls under but since you generate worlds from the menu I put it under UI)
