The "Overgrown" or something along those lines will be a hostile mob, maybe a zombie variant that's basically being mind controlled by a plant or spores of some sort. these mobs will act a lot smarter avoiding water like an Enderman and cliffs and what not. they'll become a grey/green color and covered in vines and will spawn only in the jungle biome, and they'll also be immune to sunlight. when hit by one you'll gain the curse or de-buff "Jungle's wrath" or something along those lines and start to see and be attacked by illusions as long as your in a jungle. In hard mode though it'll affect you as long as you're in a vegetated area like a forest. these zombies will also have a projectile sort of attack in which they shoot out or implode affecting with this curse. this curse can only be gotten rid of with honey, milk will have 0 effect on it. and the only other way to get rid of it is to pass it off unto another mob or player continuing the curse until someone ultimately drinks honey and breaks it. I figured this would give more depth to the jungle and its mysterious & adventurous vibe without having to add the entire jungle ecosystem whilst adding a bit of danger, I don't want this to be a boss, but it should be challenging to beat in its own territory, like drowned.
