I propose that usernames in the Java Edition of Minecraft be case-insensitive to reduce the time to find a unclaimed username even with a randomizer. Such as, if a username is taken and is all caps, a person can take the all lowercase, or mixed-case version of the same username. I assume this would not be an issue as UUID's still differentiate players and ensure that punishments, bans and the not are applied to the person regardless of username or username changes. I noticed server commands being case-sensitive for usernames (post name-change update Feb 4th). This would also dissuade bad actors from "selling and buying access to usernames that are desirable" which is not allowed.
