I disagree with this idea for two main reasons (Java Edition):

    1) It is going to devalue OG usernames (usernames that are simple enough to be classified as rare and valuable). This would be unfair for players that "earned" those usernames by being around when they were/became available. There are whole communities revolving around rare accounts and such a feature would make those usernames no longer very special or appealing.

    2) It is going to make impersonation of other users much easier considering some people don't pay much attention on capitalization and they could easily get confused when they see someone with the same name but capitalized differently.

From my perspective, I genuinely don't understand how changing it to case-insensitive would be any sort of useful. You're proposing it to "reduce the time to find an unclaimed username"... I don't get how this would be a genuine problem for someone, especially one using the Minecraft Feedback site. Do you not already have a username? The only people this is a problem for are username traders/sellers, most likely a scammer one at that, trying to get a hoard of usernames to scam people with... OR players who've gotten their accounts banned, and want to quickly come up with a username to create a new account with... so what gives, OP? If this change were to actually be implemented, these username traders/sellers would begin gatekeeping even MORE about these usernames than they already are! I've just got to assume at this point that you started playing no earlier than 2020. Even if many frown upon username trading/selling, I do believe those OG usernames, case sensitivity and all, are ESSENTIAL for the history of this game. Do you realize the amount of people across the game that may only be recognized by their very unique Minecraft username by others? Let's not tarnish Minecraft's history just because you're wanting to either ban-evade, or mass-produce usernames yourself, because again... I don't get any other reason as to why any other player would ask for this change.

All respect! Just giving some constructive criticism, I really care about video game preservation.
