Minnows

These fish would spawn in rivers, lakes, swamps and even man made lakes. They would add depth to the empty ponds in Minecraft. I think they would drop raw minnow. That could be cooked or fed to cod, salmon, pufferfish and tropical fish. Like most fish they can be fed to cats and foxes will hunt them. I think they would school in groups of 10 minnows but spawn in groups of 1-5. They would be shy and flee from the player and other mobs.  Cats, dolphins and Salmon would also attack them. They would despawn after a while. You could feed them to dolphins.

    And are hunted by foxes and (maybe?) cats

    Perhaps these may not be used for food, instead used as bait for catching fish faster? This would likely be a better alternative to adding minnows as edible food.
