The healing/food bar system is unintuitive and disruptive.
As soon as your visible food bar is not 100% full you just stop healing. This to me makes no sense.
Maybe keep healing going until the visible food bar is down to 50% to make fighting spawns more fluid so you know in time that you have to step back and eat? As it is now you have no good way of keeping track of your saturation and for me at least it doesn't make much sense.
Either that or make the saturation bar visible.
