One of the great advancements of the hopper has been that it allows you to easily build item separators.
But one thing that frustrates me about item separators is having to use a hopper for each item I want to separate. This forces me to have to make very large redstone machines to separate a slightly larger variety of items. This requires the use of more hopper that will, in addition to spending more space and resources, make the game heavier, which is quite frustrating.
With that in mind, I noticed that a small change would allow you to use a single hopper to separate 5 items, making it possible to use fewer hopper to separate the same items and thus make the game lighter.
What I propose is a change in the preference of slots that the hopper will discharge first. Nowadays it always starts unloading from the leftmost slots to the right. What I propose is to start unloading from the last slot that received some item. If the third slot was the last to receive some item start unloading the items from that slot and then unloading the other slots going from left to right.
These small nuances do not disturb the item separators made in the current dynamic, but only broaden the possibilities for the hoppers. An example of applying this new system would be to, in a single item separator, separate the Nether Quartz, Quartz Slab, Quartz Stairs, Quartz Pillar, Chiseled Quartz Block. To have the same effect I will currently have to make 5 item separators which would make me have to use more hoppers making my map heavier and on larger systems making the game unfeasible.
