I was thinking, maybe animals should be able to attack the player under special circumstances. one such circumstance would be when you attack a mob's baby. When you attack the baby, the parent will attack the player. The mob will also attack any entity that harms it's child. when the baby grows up, the mob will no longer be protected. Animals will still run when you attack them. I just thought its a good idea and would make a neat game mechanic.
* Animals might have low attack, but high knockback.
* horses can kick you.
* tamed (babies you breed) will not act the same.
