Currently in minecraft, the lava lakes of the nether are quite empty! With no reason to journey to the shores of the lava lakes or to the edges of the netherrack. I propose a new mob, similar in behavior to the Sea Turtles of the over world. The “Slammerhead” would be a hammerhead shark, with legs! The creature would be found most often swimming with its head bobbing in and out of view on the surface of the lava. Occasionally it would make jumps as well! The Slammerhead would be a hostile mob, meaning that when a player is close enough, on land or in the lava, the slammerhead would attack. Slammerheads when in lava focus more on ramming into the player with their big hammer like heads. But on land, the slammerhead prefers a more diverse moveset. if the player is within a certain amount of blocks from the slammerhead, it will run at the player trying to ram them. If the player is outside of this radius, the slammerhead will shoot projectiles similar to that of blazes, out of its mouth at the player. If and when a player manages to get the Slammerhead low on health, it will begin to retreat back into the lava, allowing it to hide in safety, as well as making any retaliation of the player futile as the drops would burn away in the lava. This means that the player should act fast, or get creative to kill the slammerhead quickly, and scoop up the loot!
The slammerhead would drop either scales or perhaps fins. Doesnt really matter, but the drop, would be used to craft a new unique helm, similar to the scoot helmet of the sea turtles. This helm would be invaluable for players who plan on living in the nether, as it would act as limited lava and fire resistance! Saving and helping correct any silly missteps or falls. This helm would be great, allowing players the ability to function in lava, without needing constant gapples or potions. The one downside of the helm, would be that it does the reverse, causing extra damage for the player, when stepping in the blue flames of the soulsand valley! So players have to be sure they’re always managing this new and useful helm!
