Grave hounds are a particular mithical creature born and fairly known among most of Europe.
During medieval times was belived that whenever a new graveyard was made the first thing to be buried in it could not go neither to heaven nor hell and was bound to stay forever on earth as a spirit wich had the duty to guide others to the afterlife as a sort of guardian of those who died. The church did not agree with this superstition but in any case people weren't really keen on giving up the opportunity to go to heaven when they died so in order to work around this inconvinient was first buried a dog in the newly made graveyard. The soul of the dog was referred to as the Grave Hound and escorted to the afterlife the the souls of those who earned the grace of God.
