In the most recent snapshot (19w37a) they fixed a bug in which execute store could actually change data within the 'tag:{}' tag on items within a players inventory, despite it being part of the players nbt. Player nbt shouldn't be editable in order to fix other potential glitches that could arise, and as such this bug was removed. However, this functionality is/was extremely useful for command coding, and many of us are very sad to see this go. I propose one of the following:
1. Re add the ability to edit item tags via execute store or via data merge.
2. Add another command that could let us edit player nbt.
I understand why player nbt is uneditable as of right now. It causes too much desync with other aspects of the game, and supposedly editing player nbt would kick the player from the game. However, when this bug was still in effect, and still being used generously by 4+ players, there wasn't any obvious negative effect. No one was kicked, and the item updated perfectly. That is why I'd like to see this functionality returned in some way.
Thank you.
