I would vote as I love the idea, but spiders are already much weaker than other mobs, and I think we need compensation for that weakness first, before unique abilities/disadvantages.
    Still, great idea.

TheIronSniper1 I'd say they can be at least more annoying than zombies because of their ability to climb and jump, and some of them are venomous... Maybe this can be the way to power them up a bit: not sure if science backs this one up, but I've heard that all spiders are venomous, some of them just can't bite through our skin. So regular spiders could inflict Weakness -- though this one should definitely be tested for balance.

Alex Malski I think that's actually a good compromise and could be a post of it's own.
My only concern is if this undermines cave spiders being more dangerous than regular spiders, so the effect shouldn't be worse than the cave spiders.

Nice idea, but although spiders breathe with their bodies unlike most arthropods they are actually pretty well equipped to deal with water. Their body hairs allow them to trap air bubbles, and also balance on the surface of the water and walk. Even if some legs end up submerged they can still sort of swim. And if they end up under water they then rely on their trapped air to survive until they can hopefully make it out. Some spiders like raft spiders and diving bell spiders take it a step further, hunting on top of the water and living in a bubble underwater respectively.
