Horizontal FOV in minecraft?

The FOV slider in Minecraft looks like it only affects the vertical FOV, which looks really weird. The warping that high FOV settings create warp the top and bottom of the screen, instead of the sides of the screen. Can you guys change the properties of FOV so that it affects the vertical aspect less and the horizontal aspect more? Or a middle ground would be to add a new button that lets you toggle between this new style of FOV and the old way.
