The official Minecraft twitter account asked long ago what people think would push Minecraft to a 2.0 update. I’ve been thinking about that ever since. This is a start of a series of posts explaining what I think should be overhauled in order to put Minecraft into a 2.0 update. Dungeons should be overhauled in their generation, themes and difficulties. Dungeons should be generated in different sections I call chambers. Chambers are the rooms the player walks through and battles mobs in. Although every dungeon is randomly generated, each one will have one of the following:
- mini boss room (most often just an armored zombie or skeleton
- item room (apart from loot chests, item rooms can contain items used in crafting new blocks, gear and more. This will be discussed in future posts)
- boss room (will contain tiered biases based on dungeon difficulty and biome
-entrance (a nice looking entrance that leads to the dungeon)
- special item room
I feel having this new dungeon generation would help Minecraft in the sense of keeping the player exploring, as most people just pass dungeons entirely. I think that the dungeons should be encased in dungeon blocks (change texture based on biome/dimension) which cannot be broken in survival, which makes them more challenging and a bit more fun to explore. As for new mobs and bosses, I’ll leave that to the devs who have much better creativity than I.
