While I was farming sheep for wool, I had the idea to try trimming some Tall Grass and feeding it to them to see if it would do anything. To my disappointment, no, it didn't -- in fact, they didn't even eat it.
I sense an opportunity here, though.
My suggestion is that Tall Grass, cut off with Shears and used on a Sheep like food, would act like bonemeal in that it gives the sheep a chance of regrowing its wool without waiting for its eating animation.
If a sheep has been shorn for a long time (because those punks love to run around naked it seems) it could possibly even be attracted to the held grass, like wheat.
