Non-Obsidian Nether Portals

I was thinking that the nether could have different portals (for example, I could make one out of diamonds) but only possible to create via creative mode, and would teleport to the other portal once another is built in any place in the world, but would go the nether if no other portal was existent in the world (for example, a portal made of wood would teleport to the nether unless there was another wood portal in the over world, then they teleport to each other). The only way to light portals like this though, would be through an item called the Portal Maker. The item would only be obtainable through commands or Creative Mode (similarly to spawn eggs), and the only exception for any of these rules would be the normal obsidian portal which is still lit by flint and steel, and only goes to the nether.
