Opossums should be a mob in Minecraft. They would be a forest dwelling mob, being found in all forest variants, taiga variants, mega taigas, and dark oak forests (roofed forests). They will not be found in jungle biomes.
Opossums should be neutral mobs that are primarily arboreal (living in trees) and can climb trees similarly to spiders). They can hang from their tails during the day (sleeping similarly to bats) and will be upside down (like bats). This is because Opossums are nocturnal, however if attacked while sleeping hanging from their tail, they will fall down onto the ground and wake up, becoming hostile to the player, growling.
During night time, Opossums wake up and crawl down onto the ground, where they roam the forest biomes. In this state, they are simply neutral and will only attack if provoked. They will try to avoid the player or light sources. If the player attacks them there is a 50% chance of the opossum falling down and playing dead, which will essentially allow the player to freely attack them or flee. The opossum will spring back up after a few seconds. If the opossum is sneaked up on from behind while the player is sneaking they will always be startled and play dead.
(Alt. Option: To make up for the playing dead feature Opossums will deal strong bite damage. Additionally, they could have a very small chance of inflicting poison damage (probably not nessecary for this mob)).
Opossums are uncommon mobs and only spawn during the night time. They can despawn.
