The 'songbird' could come in a variety of colors.
They would 'sing' at dawn and dusk. I think it would add to the atmosphere of going to sleep to the sounds of your songbirds, then waking up to them as well (like a pleasant alarm clock).
They would spawn with a 'bird's nest' block (as described in my prior post).
The player could craft a 'nesting box' and attach it to a tree trunk and you would have to 'play' a music disc for them, in order to get them to breed.
They could be transported via a 'bird cage' block.
You would place the bird cage within a certain block radius of the songbirds, then 'open' it. They would automatically fly in, then you would 'close' it, transport them wherever you wanted, then place the cage again and open it, they would automatically fly out.
Or you could just leave the cage closed and place it in your base as decoration.
There should be a mechanic where you could 'teach' them a new tune. Perhaps by setting up a redstone noteblock song, and letting it repeat three times, within the vicinity of your songbirds. Then they would 'sing' this song at dawn & dusk instead of their natural 'random' tunes. So basically a custom alarm clock. lol

Removed the word "the" and "mob" (you should consider that in the future), as it really muddles search results. Easy subjects get found faster! :)
