I think that the wandering trader can bring a lot more to the table. How about after you have traded with 5 different wandering traders, you gain enough "reputation" so that the next trader will sell you an item called the Tome of the Ancient Traders. You can use this to craft a wandering trader hood that will give you some special effects. You would craft it like this, gold ingot=g, emerald(or emerald block)=e, Tome of the Ancient Traders=t, and blue wool=b, 1 is the top row and three is the bottom row.

In addition to making you look spiffy when worn, it would give you an effect called experience. there would be 4 levels. the first level would lower all trade costs by 10%. The second level, obtainable along with the third and fourth by enchanting the hood with the different levels of fortune, would reduce costs by 20%, the third level by 35%, and the fourth level by 50%. Like if you agree.
