One thing I noticed with the new Village & Pillage update was that it is way too easy to survive or start off by taking loot from chests in the villages.
My idea is that stealing from the generated chests in the village should cause the player to lose reputation with villagers.
Maybe there can be a witness system where the villager has to be in line of sight while stealing in order to lose reputation with them, but I think that making a change like this will make players think about what decisions they want to make in their play through. They could steal from the villagers, but also risk increased prices from their trades later. Players could also decide to leave the chests alone, and continue to get good deals.
I think an addition like this would be more realistic to how villagers should behave, and I think it would possibly make players think twice before looting a village.
To gain reputation, players can possibly slay zombies who are chasing villagers, give acceptable food to the villagers (bread, wheat, potatoes, beetroots, carrots), or build an iron golem nearby.
Overall, I think that making additions to how reputation with villagers can be lost or gained can give players more of a reason to interact with villagers rather than for just trading with them. What do you think? What are other ways players should be able to gain/lose reputation with villagers?
