Imagine throwing 2 sticks and 3 iron ingots at a Toolsmith and having them throw back a pickaxe, or chucking the same items to a Weaponsmith and having them chuck back an axe, 4 planks and 2 sticks at a Shepherd, they might throw back some fences, 3 sugarcane to a Librarian and they hand over some paper, et cetera.
Basically, if the Testificate's profession should understand the recipe, they should be able to craft it. Very much like a Farmer crafting bread from 3 wheat. If they don't understand the recipe, and it's not food, they will drop the items after 5 seconds. They should craft the item that uses the most stacks and the most ingredients in their inventory.
For new players this encourages experimentation. For more experienced players though... Oh man, just imagine it... Cubicle upon cubicle of dropper fed sweatshops ~ Just beautiful.
We are getting the Stonemason in 1.14 but there are a lot of blocks that this system does not cover. It would be nice to get the carpenter and tinkerer professions. The carpenter could buy a random sapling type and sell chests and a random stripped log type. Tinkerers could cover redstone and machine related items.
It would be cool if the Nitwit could take normal items and craft stupid stuff with them. You could give them clay and a stick to craft brick-on-a-stick. Maybe the Nitwit is just a misunderstood artist and makes some unique decorative items you can't craft yourself.
