This hostel plant-like mob prefers to appear in areas where explorers would want to tread. The light from an open Nether portal will signal these carnivorous plants to grow/spawn. It will stretch out and attack the player with its pod when the player ventures too close. It could be fed meat to pacify for a time. The longer the portal is open the more Hydnoras would gather around it. There should be a limit to how close they can spawn to nether portal, so as to allow a player who has just entered the nether to safely leave the portal, though having them in your face when you first appear in the nether, waiting for you would make a trip to the nether more un-nerving
The player would take damage when walking within 1 block of the plant.
Hydnoras are a deep dark red and dotted with spots. They have three branching parts to their mouths. Each part has white “teeth” that line the side of it. They fill one block space. They should be aware of the player and ready themselves by bending to face the player when the player is near. When the player is more than six blocks away, they should face toward the sky.
They should only close their mouths when snapping at the player accompanied by a hollow clicking sound. They should attack once in a while, when the player is close, but not within range, to spook the player.
A player can distract these plants by throwing each one a piece of meat. When fed, the plants will close their mouths and face upwards rendering them safe for the player to pass, until they have consumed the food and reopen. This will cost the player precious food to enter or exit the Nether portal.
They should not be able to be killed with a sword, or trident. But can be felled with an axe. This would require the player to come even more prepared, either bringing more food or another weapon. Feeding them should make them more subjectable to harm.
The longer the Nether portal is open the larger the field of plants gets. They would also potentially have the ability to “leak” out into the overworld but should not venture far from the portal. They should be wary of water, and will not appear within three blocks of water. When a nether portal is off, they should disperse.
