Craftable Light Meter

Instead of resorting to the debug screen to work out if the ground is at a high enough light level not to spawn mobs and break immersion, could a portable light meter be available?  I was thinking of an object that can be held in either hand, crafted with a day-light sensor, redstone block and a stick in a diagonal direction, which would sparkle/display a symbol/gently hum when lighting was at a sufficient level.

    As a fellow purist who doesn't like to use the F3 screen every other minute, I feel like your idea is a great one! Alongside the item, perhaps they could also make a block, which will check like a 20x20x20 space around it and indicate if there's any spot that can potentially cause mob-spawns.
