I got this idea not too long ago, from just looking at my two pet quail. I would love to see them in Minecraft!
-What type of quail I want the most
My quail are northern bobwhites. I would love to see these little guys wandering around. Also, you may add mutations of them if you want too! Like the Snowflake for example. Also an albino too!
-Spawning and rarity
I think the quail should spawn in the tagia. It should be slightly less common than chickens, but more common than wolves, foxes, and ocelots. The quail should be uncommon. They can also sometimes spawn and live in villages, but must be careful of cats.
-Behavior
They should be passive animals. They will not attack. They may attack each other, but not so much if they were raised together or they are siblings. If they see a predator or a player, they will fly a short distance; enough to get away from you or a predator, unless you or the predator moves quicker than it can. Ocelots and cats should be able to get them more easily, since they can sneak. It’s very rare for a wolf or a fox to catch it. When it’s nighttime, if there’s more than one quail, they will all sleep butt-to-butt to watch for predators. If a quail sees or hears one, it will alert the others. Also, when it’s walking, it’s head should move back and fourth.
-Threats
These are the following predators of a quail. Foxes, cats, ocelots, wolves, and players. The chicken may show aggression to the quail, since they’re not friends. A chicken may kill a quail. The chicken can also pass on a disease that will eventually kill the quail. The only way to heal the quail is to splash the “splash potion of healing” on it to heal either it’s health or get rid of the disease that a chicken that passed onto the quail. If you want to heal your quail from a disease, you must get rid of the chicken somehow. If it’s your pet, you should move it (or the quail) away, or kill it. You must splash the potion of healing onto it daily for 5 days in Minecraft. If you don’t heal it at all, it will die in 3 days in Minecraft.
-Droppings
Baby quail won’t drop anything. But if you kill an adult, they will have a rare chance of dropping a quail feather. It will have an extremely rare chance of dropping a quail tail feather. It will drop quail meat 99% of the time. It’s extremely rare if it doesn’t.
-Picking up
So, you can pick up a quail. They may shrink down because they’re scared. You should pick them up now. You can pet their head too. This may help it calm down. It will close its eyes. It also may squirm out of your hands. It will squirm the most if not hand-raised. It can still squirm even if it is hand-raised. Sometimes, petting it’s head won’t work.
-What it looks like and size
The pictures are to help you get the idea of what a Bobwhite looks like. The smaller one is what babies look like. I hope that helps. There’s also a lot of pictures on google, too. The one on the right is a male, and the one on the left is a female. They should be smaller than a chicken but bigger than a silverfish. Also, you cannot breed two male quail. Same with two females.
I really hope you add quail, in, maybe the next update after the foxes and all that stuff! (One more thing: if you ever come across a photo that’s a masked Bobwhite, that’s not a mutation of the northern Bobwhite.)
