Improve lighting

When I heard that lighting had been changed in the snapshots, I hoped that something like these may have been done but it appears to just be changed in how light is handled internally. according to the Minecraft Wiki page on light, the light decreases by "taxicab distance", which is the "sum of the distance along each axis". This creates a square/diamond pattern (shown in the first photo) which in my opinion looks quite ugly, and I think it should be changed to  a circular pattern if possible. This may affect gameplay so instead, it could be made so that it appears as a circular spread but is internally handled as it was before. Also if coloured lighting was added (shown in the second picture which is from https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding-java-edition/minecraft-mods/wip-mods/1445251-1-7-10-beta-wip-colored-light-progress-and), players could create more interesting lighting.

    Developer Grumm_ was asked about a lighting engine update and he said it would be "soon." I don't think the minor internal changes are all we're getting.

    This would not be difficult with tables. The tables already exist.

    I think that is a wonderful idea! The lighting has not changed since the game hit Beta. I do think it's time for some upgrades for the lighting.
