Updating world

With realms I would like an option where you can secretly edit the world and no one playing would see a difference until you updated the map for everyone to see, I'm currently working on a zombie survival realm and I would like to make updates without costing people there progress, if it's not possible then ok but if it is it would be really helpful.

    What if they start building exactly where you are building. When you update it, will their structure be gone?
