I can't agree with this. If Minecraft was put on the Steam store, then Mojang/Microsoft would lose money, since Steam takes a sizable portion of the profit games make on their store. You can just launch Minecraft through the Minecraft launcher, or if you wish, you can launch Minecraft through Steam via "Add a Non-Steam Game."

I do kinda like this idea, mainly because this could potentially open up the game to a larger fanbase. And could help with how dumb it is these days to make a proper server for cross region play

Just add it to Steam as a Non-Steam Product

Pros: Opening to a larger fan base, Steam Workshop Modding API, potentially easier server setup, in-game community interaction, playtime tracking, friends list, potential trading cards, Steam achievements alongside in-game ones/advancements,...

Cons: Valve claiming portion of the sales/profits (not like Amazon, iTunes and Google Play don't do the same...), removal/editing of "Not on Steam!" splash.

I say Microsoft should go for it, with all the benefits to the community and whatnot. :)

But why does this need to be a thing? What's wrong with the launcher that we already have?

I'd rather not, as it would yeet quite a bit of profit from mojang and might encourage them to add dlc like they did with bedrock. I think it's fine as is...

There should be a version of Minecraft available on Steam, but not the Java Edition, I would much rather have them port the Bedrock Edition to Steam since then they could release it on Mac and Linux.

I'd also be down if they ported the Legacy Console Edition to Steam so that way we could look back on what Minecraft used to be.

is good idea why in argentina

because it is better to hack it than to buy it on the official website because the blue dollar costs a lot

I doubt they would put it on steam, mainly because the game is popular and successful enough that putting it on steam will only make them less money because Valve gets a portion of the money a game makes, so it would be losing money to put it on steam. Secondly, if they were going to put Minecraft on steam, which version would they pick. While Java edition is the primary version for most players on PC, Bedrock edition is Officially the primary version of the game and is the most played version. That's probably why Minecraft is on Game pass for Xbox but not for PC.

I'd love to see Minecraft on Steam too. It would get a bunch of new Minecrafters.

I'm pretty sure a lot of titles by Xbox Game Studios are on Steam so I doubt Minecraft should be any different.

Just adding my two cents regarding everyone stating profits. That isn't really a very specific issue, as you can download the launcher for free and it requires an account to log in. Odds are they would release it as a free title and all that would be required is to add the requested Steam integrations or detection for features such as achievements, cards, etc.

This should still give access to the Workshop APIs and the Steam "launcher" could simply register a custom profile to the game once it is downloaded into the Steam apps directory with the customizable profile handling any workshop content or modding APIs (Forge, Fabric, etc.) without having to manually configure and install them.

I would definetly like if minecraft was on steam, Because of the friend list and mods would be in workshop!

    That would be the best

After success of Sea of Thieves, Halo: MCC and Gears 5 on Steam it would be great to bring Minecraft to Steam also.

It would be cool if Minecraft was in steam. My kids play on Xbox and I join them on PC. It would be cool if I could join them on the upcoming Steam Deck and be able to play in the same room as them. I don't think Windows Store games are going to work natively on Deck since it's Linux.

I thought about Minecraft Steam Edition to be part of Bedrock Edition just like the others.

Mojang would not lose money they make a ton of money from Minecraft anyway if they release it on to steam they would make even more money on it because they're more people on steam then on xbox/phones/windows store and there own websites combine

I have to disagree with the person at the top. Minecraft could be simply added as a launcher and purchased through already existing stores (e.g. the website or Microsoft Store)

Minecraft on Steam could open up many new possibilities of playing together, sharing screenshots, world saves, mods and keep track of achievements from within a massive platform with an even more massive userbase.

In my humble opinion, this is a definite no brainer!

I think it's a good idea to add Minecraft to steam, it will expand the community. But if its can be on steam, I think it should be java edition or a choice between java and bedrock editions because,I think there is too many ways to get a bedrock edition, but there is less ways to get a java edition.

I like the idea of having minecraft bedrock edition or something on the steam deck or steam as long as it works.
