The following is an idea for a redstone powered block that condenses items into thier storage blocks.
The block would function similar to a hopper does currently allowing items to pass through it pulling and pushing items from and into chests. However items like wheat, kelp, coal, redstone dust, etc, once 9 of the same item entities are inside it the items are condensed into the appropriate storage block. Hay, kelp, redstone block etc.
Crafting this item should be expensive, perhaps involving a hopper in it’s recipe. I would vote that either a hopper and a piston are the recipe since the blocks are being compressed into a single block, or use the recipe the hopper currently uses and replace the chest part of the recipe with a furnace or piston.
The block could work passively like a hopper but i feel it would be more fun and interesting if it had to be powered in order to activate condensing an item. perhaps having two separate states an functions between powered and unpowered. Maybe if unpowered it operates identically to a hopper but when powered it condenses the items inside if possible. The block should also require some sort of input from the player during setup, where the player must place one of the types of block to be sorted and condensed into the condensor so as to save time having to keep looking for compatible items to condense, in case of the event that there are only 8 wheat inside of the item, and another compressable item like a piece of bone or redstone dust passes through the condensor
The need for this is to reduce the number of chests and area required for bulk storage systems which can become cumbersome on clients and servers.
